Understanding the Goa Inquisition Beyond Popular Narratives
The inquisition primarily focused on the New Christians accused of secretly practising their former religions, and Old Christians accused of involvement in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. Also among the targets were those suspected of committing sodomy; they were given the second most harsh punishments. The inquisition was established in 1560, briefly stopped from 1774 to 1778, and was reconvened and continued until it was finally abolished in 1812. [Wikipedia]
Such a false narrative against Christians and St. Francis Xavier regarding the Goa Inquisition.
When falsehoods are needed to make Christians appear immoral, it raises questions about the integrity of those spreading them.

False narrative to show themselves victim
See how journalist Shefali Vaidya promotes a misleading narrative by combining different historical incidents and disputed claims to portray Christians in a negative light.
Notice how these YouTube thumbnails link the Goa Inquisition to St. Francis Xavier, despite providing no credible evidence that he was involved in brutal torture or forced conversions.
Such false stories are produced and spread on a large scale across social media to influence public opinion, attract attention, and generate profit.
What is truth?
False stories about brutal forced conversions, alleged links to St. Francis Xavier, and the use of torture devices are often repeated to create negative narratives about Christianity.
The truth is that many different issues were taking place during that period. A significant number of them were connected to corruption within the Portuguese administration, where political influence, trade interests, and financial gain often played a major role. Many officials were more concerned with protecting their power and economic benefits than with religious matters alone.
These actions should not all be attributed to the Christian Church. Portuguese political and economic interests often acted independently, while Christian teachings generally emphasized charity, justice, and the equal worth of all people.
